The architect was Bartolino from Novara; the new building was attached to the ancient Torre dei Leoni, to be surrounded by four towers in the corners connected through high walls. For a century the castle was mainly a military stronghold, then from 1450 onwards it was turned into a luxurious mansion. More info on the city of Ferrara
