At the Mario Negri Institute Santa Maria Imbaro a congress on "Alimenti e nutrizione per una salute migliore", with over 110 papers from doctors and professors of all over the world. Focus on the importance of oil and wine in the fight of cardiovascular disease, and garlic as a prevention of cancer and atherosclerosis. Special emphasis on such Abruzzese products as honey, oil, bread, wine, cheese and vegetables.

Seven years ago Dalai Lama, Tenzin Ghiatso, awarded the Nobel Peace prize in 1989, visited Abruzzo and was refused by late Monsignor Peressin permission to pray at the tomb of San Pietro Celestino. Monsignor Molinari, the present archbishop of L'Aquila, says that in case the Dalai Lama returns, he will pray together with him on the tomb of the "Papa della Pace".
