Loreto Aprutino - The ox of San Zopito / Il bue di San Zopito , by Orlando D'Angelo
This morning re-enactement of the ancient tradition of the "bue di San
Zopito". A white ox, the symbol of fertility of the land, ridden by a young angel with gold bracelets (=wealth) and a red carnation in his mouth, will kneel down before the statue and relics of San Zopito. The tradition has been repeated on this day since 1711 and also mentioned in d'Annunzio's "Il Trionfo della Morte".
