For the 557th anniversary of the Saint's death a school from Siena as usual will come to L'Aquila to offer the oil for the saint's lamp. A Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Giuseppe Molinari.

Carlo Azeglio Ciampi will inaugurate tomorrow the first edition of the Freedom trail - Il sentiero della Libertà: students and veterans will proceed through the majella mountain on the itinerary along which in WW2 partisans led many allied escaped POW's to safety and Carlo Azeglio Ciampi among them.

9 -12 september 1943: King Vittorio Emanuele III and Badoglio escape through Abruzzo to the South and Mussolini, a prisoner on Campo Imperatore is rescued by a German commando. The true story told now in Marco Patricelli's «Liberate il duce»: it seems that all the glory of the raid, given for decades to Otto Skorzeny, was actually the work of someone else. The only two victims of the raid were carabiniere Giovanni Natale and forest guard Pasqualino Di Tocco, of Assergi, who tried to send an alert.
