Taranta Peligna - The panicelle of San Biagio / Festa con le panicelle
300 kg flour was preapred with yeast and blessed by parish priest don Gianfranco Travaglini, and tonight 2,000 panicelle will be ready to be sold tomorrow, 3 february, after the procession and the Palena musical band. Each panicella has the form of a hand's fingers, in the act of working wool. The tradition is very old, and connects the saint (San Biagio and San Rocco are specially worshipped along with Sant' Ubaldo, the patron) to the ancient woolwork tradition (the renowned Abruzzese blanket is from Taranta).
