17th century Baroque Palazzo Lannutti, Montesilvano Colle, was bought by mayor don Raffaele Ranalli in 1831. After the death in the early 1900 of the last descendant of the family, Olimpia Lannutti, his final owner has now decided to make it a pub.

Corrado Bafile, born in L'Aquila in 1903 is now the senior cardinal in Vatican after the death of 98-year-old Chinese Ignatius Gong Pin Mei. In retirement now, he spends his days reading and every morning still celebrates mass. He remembers when he attended elementary and grammar school in the Liceo "Cotugno". Then a Law degree and apprenticeship with a brother, whose untimely death led to his vocation in 1936.

Roberto Di Crescenzo, 91, died yesterday. In the Thirties he was one of the leading seaside resort enterpreneurs, looking after a flourishing bathing facility with wooden bridge and palafict cabins. Always smiling and friendly, he will be an unforgettable figure in Francavilla's history.

Aurelio D'Intino, 28 year old, left martial arts to become a passionist padre. He started karate at 13, and finally rose to 4th position in the national championship. Last 4 march he took holy orders and entered the convent of Morrovalle.

Popoli - Still polemics on the etymology / Polemica sul nome della città
The newly published guide accepts the etymology proposed by Noemi Belcastro, from Repubblica Populusque Valvensis founded by the Christians of Corfinium after defeating the pagans of Sulmona in 374 AD. Other ethymologies connected the name to the poplars ("populi" in Latin) along the river or to the name of "Castrum Pauperi".
