Two brothers from Popoli divided by emigration are reunited through a book / Uniti da un libro due fratelli di Popoli divisi dal duro destino dall'emigrazione - by Floriana Bucci
Antonio left for France in the 1950's, and Angelo Ottavio for the USA some years later; other four brothers, to Belgium, Germany, Canada and Venezuela. Only Maria of the seven children of Bonifacio and Maria Rachele Giovani stayed in Popoli. All the Giovanis have an artistic touch for poetry, or music, or sculpture. Antonio and Angelo write poems about their homeland and family. Maria decides to publish the poems and so "Due cuori, un unico grido" is now in the bookshops.

A prison story - Barnabei begs "Save me from the executioner" / Appello di Barnabei: «Salvatemi dal boia»
This article contains the letter written by Rocco Derek Barnabei, 32, to the European Parliament «I am innocent. But I am waiting for execution. There is no evidence against me, no witness, no weapon was found, no confession. Nothing connects me to this crime.» Derek has been waiting for seven years in the death row, convicted for the murder of girlfriend Sarah Winsnosky. Though it is not sure whether he was from Colonnella or Siena, the Abruzzese municipality has adopted him. The mayor has contacted the Italian President, the pope, Amnesty International. Rocco Barnabei asks for an examination of the material found under Sarah's nails, but has no money to pay for that. His father died for the pain, his mother Jane is still fighting. The European Parliament approved a resolution in his favour, and 250 Italian Parliamentarians have written to the Governor of Virginia. Rocco has delivered a cassette to the European Parliament with a report of the dishumanities he was submitted to in prison.

Association «Amici di Lancianovecchia» has organized in the quarters called Borgo, Sacca, Lancianovecchia and Civitanova an itinerary through dozens of cribs, in connection with the Crib Exhibition that will be inaugurated the day after tomorrow at the auditorio Diocleziano, piazza Plebiscito, with 150 cribs, 25 coming from the Black Forest, Germany. Anne Junk says the tradition originated in the Middle Ages and the material used was mostly wood.

SULMONA - A satellite link to Canada from Piazza Garibaldi - Un collegamento con il Canada da piazza Garibaldi, Danea Campanella
A satellite connection between Sulmona and Hamilton, Canada, where 20,000 Abruzzese will be able to get in touch with their ancestral land. The project, proposed by Hamilton's mayor, Robert Morrow, will include Sulmona, Gagliano, Pacentro, Villetta Barrea, Pettorano, Pratola and Introdacqua. The connection will be implemented from piazza Garibaldi, Sulmona, in July, and allow friends and relatives to see each other again. The Presiedent of the Province, Palmiero Susi, wants to offer Canada a high-quality tourism and establish students' exchanges.
