Festa della Terra, Casalincontrada: six days from 21 to 26 September with experts from all over the world to discuss earthen architecture, the «case di terra cruda» built with clay and hay abounding in the province of Chieti. A book has also been published with a map of earthen houses in the province, and also a cd-rom. Finally, a photo contest has been established.

Paolo Violante, national Csen-Coni teacher, received a master in anatomy, phisiology and fitness at the Gallery Place, Washington. He was the only Italian present, and one of the very few to have been granted the prestigious diploma.

After many stories of cruelty on animals, a beautiful fable at last: Anita Leombruni, living at Badia. She was discovered when an 18-year-old from Pratola went to her vet with a young swallow fallen from its nest. The doctor sent her to Anita's, who has devoted part of her life (and house) to heal fallen and wounded birds. A message for us all.

Just back from Canada, Giovanni Legnini, Roccamontepiano's mayor, is working with Capodanno Duemila association to help the return of roccolani who left from time immemorial. The village also collected money to finance the enterprise. The Roccolani from abroad will stay a month, and visits to Rome and other places will be organized for them.

Ernesto Livorni, Italian Professor at Yale University, won for the second time the prize organized by Abbateggio in the history section. Journalism prize to Generoso D'Agnese, for his article on Celestino V's hermitages in the Maiella. For fiction Maria Suglia Pesce, and for the Paolo Barrasso section Silla Di Ciaccia, with his book on the ancient tastes of Abruzzese cooking. A special commemoration was kept for Francesco Iengo, one of the founders of the prize, and Nunzio D'Alimonte, finalist in the 1998 edition, who both passed away this year.
