I will be visiting Italy from August 7 until August 27, 2001. My grandparents Guiseppe Mazzinelli (I believe this is the Italian spelling) and Antonietta Di Fillipo both were born in Canosa Sannita, Chiezi, Italy around 1857 and 1858. If anyone is related to them or has knowledge as to whether their families still live in Canosa Sannita, I would love for you to e-mail me.
Gracias!

An Abruzzese "Saluti"
Nestled between the Mediterranean and the Adriatic seas is beautiful Abruzzo, Italy. There is a town in Chieti called Guilipoli, population 200, elevation 3,000 feet. It is a picturesque paradise that is carved into the mountains and hugged by towns such as Villa Santa Maria,Roi, Rosello Quadri and Borella. This paradise is where my grandparents and forefathers trace their roots for generations. I am proud of my ancestral roots in Abruzzo. I am truly proud of my father who is first generation italian born here in America, and carries the family tradition.

What a fantastic achievement this site is. I am amazed at how many people are interested in re-connecting with their heritage - it's
wonderful. I would be delighted to hear from people living in Civitella Messeraimondo or Lama Dei Peligni. My father and mother came from these 2 towns - they migrated to Australia in 1955. I was 3yrs old when I lasted visited my relatives from these towns. I was born and grew up in Australia - but would love to visit these two
beautiful towns again, one day soon.
My Grandparents from Civitella Messeraimondo were named Filomena Masciantonio & Guido Di Medio.
My Grandparents from Lama Dei Peligni were named Maria Di Guglielmo &
Nicolangelo Marrone.
I would be glad to hear from any long lost relatives as well.

Hi there! I am trying to locate my mother's cousin who is possibly living somewhere in Pennsylvani, USA. Her maiden name is Luisa Bifolchi and her cousin's name would be Vincenzo Tuzi. My mom's uncle's (ANGELO TUZI, born around 1891 in Balsorano Vecchio [Castello], P. L'Aquila) moved to the USA at the age of 16. There he got married and had a son, (Vincenzo Tuzi), who fought in WWII for the USA and was actually sent to Balsorano Vecchio in the attempt to get the Germans to retreat. This was the only time that my mom was able to meet him. She never actually met her uncle (Angelo), but has very fond memories of her mother telling stories about him. If anyone has any information, please e-mail me! I would love to be able to tell my mom that I located her cousin from so long ago, and maybe even possibly have them re-unite!

Complimenti! Sorry that my Italian is so limited! When we were children, our parents did not want us to learn to speak Italian because they had been ridiculed for this while they were in school as children. So sad, and such a loss for us. Anyway, I am trying to locate ancestors and living relatives in Castel Frentano. My grandparents immigrated to the United States sometime between 1910 and 1920. My grandfather came first, and my grandmother and their first child (Sara) followed later. My grandfather worked on the Pennsylvania Railroad, out of Enola, Pennsylvania. I cannot find any information in U.S. Immigration Records. My grandparents are now deceased. My grandfather was Casmiro DiPaolo. I am not sure of his hometown, but I do know it was in Abruzzi. I have no further information about my grandfather. My grandmother was Maria Giannantonio. Her home town was Castel Frentano. Her father's name was Giovanni, and I have been told they kept a grocery store. She had three brothers (Antonio, Giacomo, and Raefelle). Antonio and Raefelle immigrated to the US at later dates. Antonio returned to Castel Frentano sometime during the 1960's, where he remained until his death. Antonio's oldest son, Giovanni, was a prisioner of war during World War II. Giovanni and his family (wife Marietta, sons Antonio, Mario, Bruno, and Aldo), immigrated to the US during the 1960's. Raefelle had a son, Giovanni, who immigrated to the US shortly after World War II. He returned to Castel Frentano during the 1950's to marry Angela DiMarco. Angela died in 1958 at age 19, of leukemia, shortly after giving birth to a son, Tomas Angelo Giannantonio. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has any information concerning my family. Grazi! Hi Linda. it does get confusing. Italy is broken down into Regions, Provinces and Comune (Towns). Think of it as State, county, city. the Region was originally Abruzzo-Molise. Some years ago, it was split into 2 regions. Abruzzo and Molise. the province of Campobasso is NOW in the Region of Molise. Vinchiaturro is a town in Campobasso. my grandmother is from Mirabello Sannitico, a neighboring town. Her grandmother was a DiBiase. It is a very common name in that area. I have some website that would be helpful but couldnt e mail you using the address you gave. you may e mail me directly or do another posting here.

We think our family members came from Vinciaturo. They were Paolos and DiBiases, although the DiBiase name became DeBiose after the migration. Can someone explain the geography of this area to me? Our Mama always said she came from Vinciaturo, provenzio de Campobasso, but I find the names under Aburzzo. Is Abruzzo a region, Campobasso a nearby region and/or Vinchiaturo the city? I would love to better understant the relationship of the names.

HELLO,ABRUZZESI!
If you have roots in the province of Pescara, Teramo and Chieti
I might have good news for you. Every September and October I
conduct Tours to Italy and we go also to Abruzzo. During the past
23 years hundreds and hundreds of Italian-Americans have seen their hometown and met their relatives for the first time in Abruzzo with my Tours...
At the end of those Tours I remain all November and December in my hometown Pianella, in the province of Pescara. Great weather even then!
While I am there, as a hobby, I like to search for your relatives.
Thus, if you know the name of the town there, but you don't know if you still have cousins, give me the necessary information about your
parents or grandparents who came from there and I will see if I can find your lost "cugini". Isn't that great?
Yes, that is nice, but how much? Nothing! Just I hope that if in the future you will go to Italy and to Abruzzo you will join my Tours. Capisci?
So, Cumpari and Cummare, let me hear from you.
Grazie and Buona Fortuna. O Sole Mio!

My father, Giuseppe, was born in Loreto Aprutino March 11, 1886
My mother, Anna Domenico Fiucci was born in Collecorvino,Jan.11,1893.
They were married in Penne, civil commune. They have been in America
since about 1916 and 1920 until thir death here.
We visited Collocorvino,Loreto Aprutino,Penne, Moscufo and stayed at
the Plaza Hotel in Pescara. We met several Fiucci and DiPanfilo but
because we could not communicate very well, we did not get to much
info about any relationship, if any, from any one we met. I would like
to have met a Pacitti, Perilli, Dattilo, Faieta to gather more info.
All in all, it was a very wonderful visit to this area and now I hope
that someone familiar with these names would contact me. We also were
able to visit my brother-in-law's parents villages in Calabria. What a
beautiful country you have, the scenery was something to remember
for a life time. Hope to visit again some day.

This site is fantastic! I have been working on the family geaneology for a couple of years in the US records and was just getting ready to start working back in italy and came across it. You have so much information and the things you offer from help to pictures is great. My Grandfather was Estero Paolella from Trasacco, L'Aquila. He was born in 1891 and arrived in New York on 3/9/1909 on board the S.S. Duca Di Genova sailing from Naples. After a breif stop in Rochester, NY (relatives?) he came to Stoneham, Massachusetts were he married Palmira Ferretti from Genova and had two sons. One was my father George. His Father was Domenico and his mother was Amata Campiso. I know that within a couple of years of 1909 a Cresidio and Domenico Paolella also from Trasacco arrived in NY and I know he had a nephew so he must have had a brother or sister. I also believe from the surname map that there are still Paolella's in or near Trasacco. I would love to hear from any relatives either still in Italy or the US. Please keep this site going and get Trasacco's surnames finished up.

Grazie!

I am looking for anyone named DiSabatino who would have come from the village of Spoltore which is part of Pescara. As far as I know, my grandfather, Pietro Di Sabatino and my father Pasquale Di Sabatino are the only ones who came to this country. My grandfather had four brothers who I believe stayed in Italy. I have traced my ancestry back to 1732. I am very interested in knowing if possibly the children or grandchildren of my grandfather's brothers came to this country.

My mother, Grazia Diclemente, was born in Roccamurice, Abruzzo. I am not sure of her province - either Pescara, Aquila, or Chieti. It had changed during the Second World War. My mother's father was Cesidio Diclemente and her mother's maiden name was Piselli. I have two uncles, Giovanni and Giuseppe, who lived in Staten Island, New York. My uncle John was married to Santa and had one son, Anthony. My uncle Joe had two sons, Jesse and I do not remember the name of the other one. I am trying to find out about my mother's family in Italy, the birth and death dates of her mother and father, and any information about great grandparents. You are to be complimented on this wonderful site which helps families find each other.

I am trying to find any info possible on the Madonna family from Chieta. My daughter would love to know about her Italian heritage but since I have been divorced for many years from her father and she is estranged from him there is no way for her to find anything about her family.
The only information I have is as follows: Her great grandparents names were Anthony John Madonna and Mary Ricciuti and they were from Chieti. They had one son Nicholas, born 11/19/10 in Italy. Emigrated to Pennsylvania, USA and eventually settled in Kennett Square Pennsylvania. They raised mushrooms for a living.
They had several other children. Daniel, Anthony, Oleon, Elizabeth and Stella.
If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

HOUSE FOR RENT
Hello, Abruzzesi. I have a nice house available in Pianella, near Pescara. It is the ideal if you are going to Abruzzo with your family for a week or more; it is also great if you are going to the beach.
See farmers working, drink home-made wine and eat pasta with them; hear the rooster in the morning; eat fresh figs and grapes...!
It is in the midst of olive groves and vineyards! It is by the bus stop, within walking distance to town and, most of all, it is much, much cheaper and more peaceful than staying in Hotels!
If interested, e-mail me at: italiantours at aol-dot-com

HELLO, American-Abruzzesi!
My name is Remo Faieta. I am full blood Abruzzese too, from Pianella
in the province of Pescara. I came to Columbus, Ohio, some 40 years ago and have been a Prof. of French and Latin;for the past 22 years
I have also been conducting Tours to Italy.
Those Tours are unique, because they take you to see not only the best of Italy (Milan, Venice, Padua, Florence, Pisa, Assisi, Rome, Pompei, Capri...), but they take you to see also that dear little town where your folks came from in the province of L'Aquila, Pescara, Teramo, Chieti, Campobasso...
I know Italy like my own backyard and I have detailed maps and telephone books of Italy to help you locate your town and relatives.
Within minutes I can give you the information you have been unsuccessfully looking for all your life! With my Tours hundreds of "Cumpari and Cummare" have seen for the first time their hometown and met their "cugini". You too can make that dream come true!
My next Tour going to Italy and to Abruzzo is September 20th through
Oct. 5, when figs and grapes are ripe. Mamma Mia, come sono buoni! (=how sweet).
See my Web Site: www.italianheritagetours.com
E-Mail: Italiantours at aol-dot-com
E-Mail me if you need a brochure of my Tours.
Remember that your people did not come from the city L'Aquila, Pescara, Chieti, Teramo, Campobasso; they all came from little towns
in the province (near)of those major cities. Capisci? Bravo, Cumpare!
Allora, Buona Fortuna and Dio Ti Benedica.

This site is absolutely great. I'm trying to contact residents, former residents, or family descendants of a town from where my family descends. My hope is to eventually discover some family lineage. My Grandfathers' name as I know it was Panfilo Petracco, I've also seen his name on a document as Pampano Petrarca. I share Panfilo with my Grandfather as my middle name. My Grandmothers' maiden name was Maria Macerelli. Both claim to be from a small Abbruzzi village called Pietransieri (in fact a deceased aunt of mine went there and supposedly visited family) but also used the name of Roccaraso as the closest town and L'Aguila as the closest city. After some searching,I have located Pietransieri on a map web-site and it's very small. Is there anyone outhere willing to share information regarding any of the information I've shared? Hi! I'm Eugene Nero. I've been traveling back to Abruzzo, Provincia di Chieti, since 1977. I just returned with a group of 34 for whom I helped kindle the relationships their grandparents, for economic reasons, left behind between the years 1907 & 1922.
I led the group to discover the three mountain peak towns of Montenerodomo, Fallascoso and Torricella Peligni. We connected American cousins with Abruzzese cousins who before now had only glimmers of stories about each other to cling to. We enjoyed Abruzzese living--beauty, slowness, the best food in the world and living to live--not to rush around crazy!
Home made prosciutto, salcicia, fettucini, spaghetti, succo di pomodoro, vino rosso, olio di oliva, grappa di fragolino, please stop me! I can't go on!
Consider Abruzzo as the ultimate destination. Relax, learn about the history of Abruzzo. Learn Italian. Meet your cousins. Enjoy, relax. Learn how the old culture lives and why I chooses to live so.
We'll go to the archives offices and copy your ancestors' birth, baptism, and marriage records. Then, I with 2 pairs of glasses hanging from my face will translate them for you and build your family tree.
I enjoy crying fat tears at the sight of cousins meeting for the first time. Stong emotions well up inside me.
Think about it. Airfare USA to Rome is $1100 until Sept 14th, at which time it drops to as low as $615. Wine season is Sept & Oct. I provide all info, flight coordination. We'll rent cars or vans at Rome airport and do our own driving. We'll stay in beautiful homes belonging to platinum people.
You'll get much more for much less. No tour buses, no watered down tour guide speeches. Live Italian! Learn Italian! Find your grandparents' descendants whom you knew you had, but never could find. Give yourself a chance.

O Sole Mio!

My mother, Anna Domenico Fiucci was born in Collecorvino,Jan.11,1893.
They were married in Penne, civil commune. They have been in America since about 1916 and 1920 until thir death here.
We visited Collocorvino,Loreto Aprutino,Penne, Moscufo and stayed at the Plaza Hotel in Pescara. We met several Fiucci and DiPanfilo but because we could not communicate very well, we did not get to much info about any relationship, if any, from any one we met. I would like to have met a Pacitti, Perilli, Dattilo, Faieta to gather more info. All in all, it was a very wonderful visit to this area and now I hope that someone familiar with these names would contact me. We also were able to visit my brother-in-law's parents villages in Calabria. What a beautiful country you have, the scenery was something to remember for a life time. Hope to visit again some day.

Grazie. Remo Faieta in Columbus, Ohio
Columbus, Ohio USA
My name is Remo Faieta. I am full blood Abruzzese too, from Pianella in the province of Pescara. I came to Columbus, Ohio, some 40 years ago and have been a Prof. of French and Latin;for the past 22 years I have also been conducting Tours to Italy.
My next Tour going to Italy and to Abruzzo is September 20th through Oct. 5, when figs and grapes are ripe. Mamma Mia, come sono buoni! (=how sweet).
See my Web Site: www.italianheritagetours.com
E-Mail: Italiantours at aol-dot-com
E-Mail me if you need a brochure of my Tours. Remember that your people did not come from the city L'Aquila, Pescara, Chieti, Teramo, Campobasso; they all came from little towns in the province (near)of those major cities. Capisci? Bravo, Cumpare!
Allora, Buona Fortuna and Dio Ti Benedica.
