My great grandmother was from CASTEL DI SANGRO (L'AQUILA). Her maiden name was ANTONIETTA ABUMERATTA. I'm not sure I'm spelling the last name correctly. She had three sisters. She came to the United States in 1902, the same year she married my great grandfater JACK MANN who I think had to change his name at Ellis Island from the last name of DI MENNA so that it was more American sounding. I think he was from the same region of Italy. He came to the US in 1890 and settled first in Pennsylvania and then in Waynesburg, Ohio. He had a sister in Italy. Her name was MRS. IRENE MARZANO. If anyone has any information they could pass along to me about why some immigrants changed their name upon arriving in the US or if anyone knows about my relatives I would very much appreciate it. Grazie, molto grazie!!

What a great web site. I too am interested in finding my roots. My Father's name was Ottavio Leone and my mother's name is Loreta. Her maiden name would be Susi. They were born in Pettorano Sul Gizzio, in 1924, 1927 respectively. Their parents were Pasquale and Felidea (Orsini) Leone and Amico and Margherita (Suffoletta) Susi. I would love more ancestoral information and perhaps connect with any relatives around the world. Hoping for information soon! Thanks!

My grandmother left her birthplace, Pescina, a few months after the massive earthquake of 1915 centered near there.
Her name then was Maria Vincenza Soricone. Pescina is just off the major AutoStrada east of Rome about 80 miles, in the Abruzzi,Abruzzo region. Her parents died in the earthquake, as did 3 of 4 residents of the town at the time. I visited Pescina in May, 2001. I would be interested in communicating with anyone with tips as how to get more information about former residents. We visited the town cemetery, but were unable to learn much because of the language challenge. Her mother's maiden name was Pera. The town is in a pretty setting, but obviously very poor to this day. It appears to have been established hundreds if not more than a thousand years before, with ancient ruins just above town on a steep hillside.

This is a great website. It was a pleasure to read the messages from the people from Fossacesia and Lanciano, since I was born in Fossacesia also. I came to Canada in November, 1957, on the ship " Olympia " . I would love to hear from people who came on the same ship as I did. I have been back to Fossacesia only three times. I love it there, especially in the summer. My favourite pastime is playing the accordion. I play for the Club Roma choir in St.Catharines,Ontario. We will be singing at the CHIN international picnic in Toronto on Sunday, July 1st. If you will be there, come and say hello. Ciao for now. Mauro.

I am looking for any of the diCoio's still living in the town of Colademacina, Chieti are related to my grandfather Croce Antonio di Coio. His family had vineyards and olive groves. He was born around 1885. He emigrated to New York in the early 1900's where he married Maria Rossi who was from the same town. Her sister Giulia returned to Italy and spent WWI there. My great grandmother Rossi was a widow who owned a Cantina. One of Giulia's cousins visited many years ago and said that the family house was still there.

I am planning a visit to Rome in the spring of 2002 and would like to visit any relatives still living in Abruzzo. My father Felice Libertini was born in Forme in 1926. He is the son of Antonio Libertini and Finizia Leonetti who were married in Castelnuovo in 1925. My Grandfather Antonio Libertini was also born in Forme in 1896. He was the son of Felice Libertini ( my great grandfather)and Albina Lucci. Antonio had two brothers that I know of; Vincenzo and Luigi. I believe that the father of Felice was Girolamo Libertini but I am not sure. Finizia Leonetti was born in Castelnuovo in 1895. Her mother was Amalia Fliminni. She had brothers Alfredo and Virgilio Leonetti and sisters Olympia and Orienta, possibly others. Can anyone help? Thanks.

My grandfather, Giovanni DiFalco (a linguist in the Italian Army who was fluent in Italian [many dialects]; English; French; Arabic; Spanish; Polish; German; Russian; and, Greek) arrived in the USA on March 16, 1900 in Ellis Island. He sailed on the ship, The Patricia, from the French port of Boulogne/Pas-de-Calais. He and his family had lived in Lama dei Peligni (in Abruzzo). His parents were Tomasso DiFalco (Born June 18, 1852 in Lama dei Peligni) and Anna Angelucci (born in 1856). Tomasso’s parents were Giovanni DiFalco (Born around 1835) and Maria Ricchiuti. Anna’s parents were Guiseppe Angelucci and Maria Nicola (surname is either Broila or Eroibo, born around 1830.) That’s all I have so far. If you can offer me any information, I would be most appreciative. I believe he had many brothers and sisters.

My address is: teodoro.c at tiscalinet.it
Castelnuovo is famous for the his greatly sheds emigrants in each part of the world. Also in my family there has stayed and there are relatives that live far from the Italy.I remember when to the age of 10 years every 15 days my mother dictated me the letter that I wrote for the grandfathers that stayed in Germany.
My father remembers us when in the first years of the 1900 and after the First World War many castelnovesi has left for Africa, Nigeria, Congo, Somalia, Red Sea, like Pugliese Vitale, Del Vecchio Leonardo, Di Geronimo Francesco. After they have left for Canada, United States, Central America, Martinique and Guadalupa, America of the South, Australia, like the Venutolo families, De Rogatis, Annicchiarico, Del Vecchio, Di Ruggiero, Di Donato, Custode, , Di Domenico, Federici, Mastrodomenico and so much other.
After the Second World War the castelnovesi have emigrated in each part of the world, in Europe and greatly in Venezuela, like my father, my uncle, my grandfather and other relatives.
Years of joys and pains, fortunes and adversities.
Today I would want these feelings are always alive in the hearts of those of Italian origin and they don't come forgotten ever. This is possible because I have realized a splendid engraving on wood to hold home, a very handsome reminder the origins of the family and do it know through internet to the wibesite:

Ciao ragazzi! This is an AMAZING website! I'm researching my family lineage and am trying to find out about my great-great-grandfather, Constantino Buzzelli, who married a woman named Gaetana (don't know her last name), and they were farmers in Castel di Sangro. They had 2 sons who came to America in the early part of the 20th Century and their names are Edoardo and Raffaele Buzzelli, the latter being my great-grandfather. Constantino's son Raffaele married a woman named Carmela Capotosto, my great-grandmother. Carmela's parents were Giuseppe Capotosto and Esther Iacobucci, and they, too, were from Castel di Sangro. Anyone out there who thinks they may be related or who may have any information on these folks, I'd really love to hear from you! Un abraccio a tutti gli abruzzese!

My grandfather left Italy in 1914 at the age of 17 and sailed to NY on the SS Berlin. PLEASE! If anyone out there has heard these surnames and can shed some "light" on my research I would love to hear from you! Ciao!

Saluto! My great-grandfather, Cosimo Roberti, came to the U.S. from Lentella in 1896 by way of Antwerp, Belgium. He returned to Lentella and came again in 1899. He returned again, married Bambina Fabrizio, had a child (my grandfather, Antonio Roberti), both of whom he brought to the U.S. in 1911 by way of Naples. He returned once more and came to the U.S. the last time in 1922 where he lived in Philadelphia until his death in January 1966. I am interested in hearing from anyone in Lentella or elsewhere related to either Cosimo or Bambina.

Hi. God brought me to this website. I know he did because I just found out my grandfather Attilio Di/De Palma was from Alfadeno, Italy. I never knew him however The little information I gathered, wants me to find out more about his life. He supposedly arrived to the US through Ellis Island in 1914 at the age of 18. He married my Grandmother Antoinette Grindatto and lived in Buffalo, New York up till about 1920. My mother was born in 1918 and when she was 2 years old, my grandfather disappeared. During his stay in Buffalo, he was a classical violinist and played with the symphony orchestra. (Strange, that I am an avid classical music lover}. I am sure that he may have remarried and continued his career as a violinist. I forgot to mention his last name was changed to De Palma, but was Di Palma on the passenger list. I would deeply appreciate anyone who can help or knows the names of ships that arrived from Italy in 1914. I cannot get to a family history library as I am fully disabled. Thanking you.........

Hello everyone. I am searching for relatives of my grandfather, NICOLA ODOARDI. He was born in PIETRANICO in approximately 1903. He immigrated to the United States in 1920, arriving at Ellis Island on December 25, 1920 aboard the Guglielmo Pierce, which departed from Naples. Upon arrival in the United States, he settled in Georgetown, CT. His last name was changed to Edwards. In approximately 1930 he married CATHERINE NUNZARRO, also from PESCARA, if not also from PIETRANICO. I believe NICOLA ODOARDI had 4 brothers, all of whom remained in Italy. I would love to hear from anyone with information regarding the ODOARDI family from PIETRANICO. Thanks much, Paul.

GRANDE and TANTALO and LIPPA - I am the granddaughter of Cesidio (also known as Giuseppe or Joseph) and Costanza (also known as Concetta or Constance) Grande. They were both born in Villavallelongo in the Province of L'Aquila, Abruzzi. Cesidio was married two times - his first wife died (don't know her name or anything about her) but they did have a child, Maria. He came to the United States for the first time 08 April 1902 and then went back to marry Costanza. He came back to the US for the final time on 09 August 1909 and settled in Rochester, New York in the suburb of Irondequoit. My grandmother's maiden name was TANTALO. She followed Cesidio to America on 09 October 1911 with my two Aunts, Liberata Grande (who was 1 year old) and Maria Grande (who was 10 years old). I spent many a childhood summer in Rochester with my grandparents. Loved my nonno's homemade wine, and nonna's cooking - homemade pasta, bread, zeppole, lasagna, ravioli, etc. If anyone has any information about the GRANDE, TANTALO or LIPPA families please E-mail me. Hi:
My father, Guiseppe Nanni came to Canada from Vacri on October 14, 1926. He came to join his father Adamo who was then living in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada.
Currently, a cousin, Gino Nanni, has the family farm at Contrada Acqua, Santa # 3. One day soon, I hope to pay him a visit.
If anyone has information, news or history concerning the Nanni family, please e-mail me at: ed_nanni at ca.yr.com - or - pepper.nanni at sympatico-dot-ca.
I would be gratefull for anything that would help me learn more about the family in Vacri.

This really is a great web site. I love browsing thru it. I haven't seen any of my family names, but I did get to see someone from my mothers home town of Gessopalena cheti. maybe I'll drop him a line to see if any of my mothers parents names are familiar to him. he to is searching for his family name. which i might add isn't one of mine. But it is so nice to finally see a town where i thought nobody ever came from since my grandparents came to America in 1923.my mothers father was Dominic Daniele his fathers name was Marco and his mothers name was Camilla Scamuffa he married Mariicola Salomone her father was Valentino and her mother was Anna bozzi. my father Francisco di stefano came from torricell palena cheti. His parents remained in Italy, but he had two uncles here in phila pa. One lived to be 100 years old and the other went back to Italy around 1949.there are a lot of Distefanos here in phila pa, but i don't know if we are related. My parents divorced and then he passed away in 1952. the ones living here could be related because the uncle that lived to a hundred had 6 or 7 children most of them boys, one of them was a priest . Anyway I love surfing thru. some one from Lettopalena keeps me in touch with chieti its another great site. I guess we all sometime or another wants to touch something from the past.

WOW, what a web site. I started out trying to find what city my grandparents came from and if any "AGATONES" still lived there. This genelogy stuff is addictive. My grandfather (Giuseppe Agatone)left Casoli, Italy in March of 1906 (he was 15 yrs old). Between 1899 and 1921 approximately 20 Agatones left Italy. I remember being told that my grandfather had a sister that still lived on the family farm in Casoli. This was told to me by my grandmother when I was approx. 12 yrs. old (whew !!! I'm 55 now). My question is - are there any AGATONES left in Italy.

HOUSE FOR RENT
I have a nice farm house available in Pianella, near Pescara.
It is the ideal if you are going to Abruzzo with your family for a weeks or more. It is also great if you are going to the beach. See farmers working, drinking their home-made wine and eating pasta;
hear the rooster in the morning...!
It is in the midst of olive groves and vineyards! It is by the Bus stop and it is much cheaper and peaceful than Hotels!

I write you for help me to promote the Italian Culture in the world, for always maintain alive the memories of our ancestors. They left Italy to seek one's fortune abroad, for themselves and for their children.
My name is Castolo Teodoro,
i’m 39 years old, I have married with Rosaria D'Ambrosio and we have three children, Francesco 7 years, Alessia 5 years and Carola 4 years.I live in Campagna in province of Salerno, Italy, to 40 Km from the village where I have born, Castelnuovo di Conza to the boundary with the province of Potenza and Avellino.

My parents were both born in Gagliano Aterno, L'Aquila, so were my grandparents and great-grandparents. My brother and I were also born in Gagliano Aterno and hold a dual citizenship. I am disappointed that my surname OLIVIERI has been excluded from the list of popular last names of the village for the website. Can you correct that? Also my paternal home is still there.

I have a nice farm house available in Pianella, near Pescara.
It is the ideal if you are going to Abruzzo with your family for a weeks or more. It is also great if you are going to the beach. See farmers working, drinking their home-made wine and eating pasta;
hear the rooster in the morning...!
It is in the midst of olive groves and vineyards! It is by the Bus stop and it is much cheaper and peaceful than Hotels!
