Hi! I am doing a Family History for one of my classes and I was wondering if anyone could give me info on what the small villages were like in the early 1900's. My great-grandfather, Isadoro Barbetta immigrated to America in 1904. He was born in Ripa Teatina in 1886. I was looking for some sort of background about the town he came from. My grandfather Nick (Isadore) Barbetta is still alive, but he was born in America. Plus, he doesn't like to talk about it. Hello to all of my distant family members in Chieti, Ripa Teatina, Italy. My grandparents, Gaetano and Concetta De Francesco came from Ripa Teatina in 1912. My dad, Vincent De Franceso, was born in the USA and returned to Italy with his parents when he was 13 years of age. I have been informed that there is still a large family in Ripa Teatina of De Francesco's and I would like to hear from them. I am planning a trip to Italy sometime this year and would like to visit the family home that is still standing. I do not have an address, but what I do know is that there was a Cantina next door to the family home, which has since been declared a historical shrine. Please would someone answer me and let me know if any of this is familiar. Ciao!

He settled first in Newark, NJ then moved to near Easton, PA where he met his wife Fidelma. They moved then to Ashtabula, Ohio. My grandfather Vincent Michael Marchese was born in Castiglione Messer Marino on April 1, 1875.I am not sure but I think his father was a police officer. He sent for two of his brothers, a sister and some cousins. His brothers names were Oscar and Plot, his sister's name was Eva. I am sure he left other siblings and his parents behind. Was just browsing this site looking for my family's roots. Wonderful site, packed with a lot of information about our ancestry and the region of Abruzzo. Mine family history (last century at least) is in a little village called Nocciano. I will now attempt to research my family's entire history. If anyone can give me hints on how to make it easier, please let me know. Thanks.

I love this website, and read almost everything when I receive it. My husband comes from Monteodorisio and we went back there in 1998 it was Tommaso's first visit since he left as a 12 year old, and it took 47 years for him to be able to return. My love affair with Italy started then and I have been back twice since then, but tom has only been back once again. and I am looking for an excuse to return this year. i stayed in Fresagrandinaria with relatives in 1999 and loved the tranquility of the area. i am an Australian who speaks some Italian, but feel that I am an italian as I love everything about the people, their food, wine culture and there is nothing I cant praise enough about Italy. There are many members of the Sciascia family in Perth Western Australia, and all of the children have done well and all own their own homes and businesses, which is amazing when you think that Tom/s father arrived in Australia after the 2nd world war with nothing and 3 years later owned a property and bought his family out to join him, and they have thrived here, but still retain their Italian traditions. Thank for the great website, it has provided me with constant news of my beloved Italy./ And who knows, I may get back this year, dreams can come true!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you to everyone whose contributions have made this a great site for those of us doing family research.
I am a decendant of Concetta Cafaina Ciofani who was married to Francis (Frank) Sbriglia. They settled in Reno, Nevada, where my great grandfather was a stonemason. My Ciofani ancestors are from Ortucchio. I am still in search of additional information about the Sbriglia's (Pedivigliano, Consenza, Italy) and would appreciate communicating with anyone who may have additional pieces of the puzzle.
Cousins, if you are searching for Ciofani's or Sbriglia's, please contact me. We may be able to assist each other with family information.
Thank you.

My mother, Adelina Bucciarelli, was born in Pretoro, daughter of Florindo Bucciarelli of Pretoro and Annunziata Rotunno of Rapino. Florindo's father and brothers ran a brick factory in Pretoro, and Florindo was a skilled bricklayer and stonemason. He came to the US early in the century, working there and returning several times before sending for his family and settling in Philadelphia. I have been to Pretoro once, did not try to contact anyone--I'll be there again in June, and would like very much to make some contacts, related to me or not.

Seeking relatives or information on my nonni. Nonno: Pietro (Peter) Benito Colaianni, b: Dec. 27, 1893, San Pietro Avellana, Italy; father: Dominick Colaianni; mother: Mary (surname unknown). Emigrated to USA (from Naples), arrived Feb. 10, 1912 on vessel Berlin. Brothers also came to USA at different times: Paul Vito Colaianni, b: Feb. 24, 1889; arrived USA April 9, 1904 (from Naples) on vessel Prinzess Irene. Guisseppe (Joseph) and Giovanni (John), not known what dates they came over.
Peter married Guissepina (Josephine) Truncali in USA on Oct. 31, 1915.
Nonna: Josephine is from Caltabellotta, Agrigento, Sicily. Father: Gaspare Truncali; mother: Rosa Soldano. Sisters: Antonia and Mary and a brother Jack. Josephine and her sisters and brother came to USA early 1900s (around 1912 we think). Parents stayed in Caltabelotta.
If anyone has any information to share or can give me leads on how to progress further, I would appreciate it. I have nonna's birth records, but not nonno's. I need to research how to request them.

My father, Eustachio Francazio, was born in Tocca da Casauria, the Province of Pescara, in 1893. He died when I was a child.
I recently learned he had a brother Eugene and a sister, Carmella in addition to my Uncle Gaetano, whom I knew. Eugene married and had 3 children.
Carmella married Augustine Centofante (born in ?Sulomone, Province of Pescara) and had 7 children. Some of these children live in the New York, USA area.
There are 2 Francazios listed in the Tocco da Casauria phone book... Antonio and Lucia.
I am in dire need of information about my father's family. Please e-mail me if you have any information. Thank you......
