I was introduced to this great website by my aunt. We are searching the web trying to find our family history. We are starting with the Francazio's. My grandfather was Eustachio and was born in Tocca da Casauria, the Province of Pescara in 1893. He married Orsalina Pezzone and had 2 brother's: Eugene and Gaetano and a sister Carmelia. We know that some of Carmelia's children live in New York, USA. Please email me at artsiedee at aol-dot-com with any information. Thank you.

I am looking for information on relatives who might be in Raiano (Di Biase's) or Nereto (Capretta's). My father left Raiano after WWI to live in the USA. My mother's parents also left about that time.
This is a wonderful site. I read so much about the big name places in Italy and so little about Abruzzo. Maybe that's good. Abruzzo will not be over run by tourists.

I am very interested in getting as much information as I can on my mother and father's family.
My father's name was Pietro Gallerizzi(Gallerizzo) and his father's name was Eugeno Gallerizzi. His mother's name was Maria Antonia Romano. My father was born in Penne, Provenca de Pescara on December 1, 1892. He had three sisters and three brothers. I know he had a brother who was a Priest and one whose name was Antonio but do not know anything about the other brothers. His sisters were Ilda, Adelina, and Irena. He immigrated to the U.S. sometime between 1914 and 1920.
My mother's name was Carmela Piccioni. Her father's name was Vincenzo Piccioni and her mother's name was Domenica De Flavis. My mother was born in Isola del Gran Sasso, Prevenca de Teremo on October 24, 1895. She had one sister, Maria Giuseppa De Mechiorre (married name) who had a son named Vincenzo who still resides in Italy. Her brothers were Antonio and Bernardo. She immigrated to the US between 1919 and 1921. Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

My grandparents on my father's side were both born in Chieti. My grandfather was Rocco Cataldo born (I think around 1894 died 1965). He married Almerinda Scioli around 1920 and came to the United States around the same time and settled in Rochester, NY. He had a large family in Chieti and one of his brothers Emil Cataldo came also to this country early in the last century, lived a while in Rochester, NY and then moved to California where he passed away there. He also had a brother Dominic Cataldo who emigrated to America and settled in Reading, PA. I know some of the relatives and my brother has had contact with a few others in Italy, but I would like to know where the Cataldo family originated from. I heard from Spain? The name could also be Spanish, but I'm not sure. There's a Mission San Cataldo in Idaho named after a Spanish priest who built it in the wilderness with the help of Indians. Just wondering if there's any one out there who has any more knowledge of the Cataldos. I heard the building that kept the records burned years ago so I don't know if any records still remain of pre 1894 genealogy. Thanks, I'm glad I found this site. Sharon Cataldo Letson

This is a wonderful site for giving and receiving help from other Abruzzese looking for their roots. I have exploited all sources of information here through libraries and LDS micro-film...I need some help compiling information on Caterina DeMatteis DOB abt. 1874 in Villa Sant'Angelo, and Carlo D'Andrea DOB abt. 1870 in Villa Sant'Angelo. These are my maternal grandparents. Carlo was son of Emedio D'Andrea and Antonia Lozzi. Emedio was born to Domenico D'Andrea and Maria Loretta DiRubeis.Caterina was daughter to Giandomenico DeMatteis and Carmella Lucantonio.
Berardina DiMichele DOB between 1868-1875 in Campana, and Franco Colista DOB between 1868-1875 in Fagnano Alto. These are my paternal grandparents. And there my trail runs out...
Can anyone help?

Hello, Friends Abruzzesi.
I am Abruzzese too, from Pianella in the province of Pescara; I came to the USA in 1963; have been professor of French and Latin and for the past 22 years have been conducting tours to Italy.
Those tours are special, because they take people to see not only the best of Italy (Venice, Florence, Rome, Capri, etc.) but I take them to see also that dear little town where their folks came from in the province of L'Aquila, Chieti, Pescara, Teramo, Campobasso, Puglia, Calabria, Sicily, etc. I know Italy, especially Abruzzo, like my own backyard.
I have the most detailed maps, a lot of literature and telephone books of Italy to help people locate their town and their long lost relatives... I have made happy hundreds and hundreds of "cumpari and cummare" that way. Within minutes I can find the town and relatives they have been unsuccessfully looking for all their life!
My next tour going to see the best of Italy and Abruzzo is on September 20, when figs and grapes
are ripe!
E-Mail me at: Italiantours at aol-dot-com if you need:
1) a brochure detailing my tours,
2) if you want to know if you have relatives in Italy. Notice: you need to tell me the name of the little town they came from. Remember: they did not come from the city L'Aquila, Chieti, Pescara, Teramo or Campobasso, but from little towns...
3) if you want a written list of your relatives there, send me a self addressed stamped envelope and $1.00 (one dollar).
Dio Ti Benedica.

Wondering if anyone could help me with when the Province of Pescara was established. Also which province did Roccamorice "La Rocca" (DiGiovanni & Di Pasquale - surnames) sit in prior to the assignment to Pescara. My records and family stories support it being formally in the Province of Chieti. Same question for Loreto Aprutino (Petrucci - surname) now in Pescara I have no idea whether it was formally in Teramo, Chieti or L'Aquila. I believe that Ortucchio (Contestabile & Petrucci - surnames) has always been in L'Aquila but correct me if I'm wrong. Any feedback and help in solving my questions would be greatly appreciated... Thanks to all in advance.
