While I was still living up in Mentor, memories of our Grandparents seemed clouded. Your dad probably has the most information.
Domenico Tianello was born in Italy within a year of 1891, (parents unknown) entered the U.S. between 1910 and 1915, lived and worked in Geneva Ohio, died and was buried there in 1929, at age 38. The Tianello family in New York state has mentioned a "Fiate" in their family background. They claim to be unrelated to us, but their are other similarities besides the rare name. Please let me know if you learn anything new.

Found family address for the Langianese surname. As it turns out they live in Peschici, Foggia. Please email me. Also researching my mother's mother with the surname of Cambularo from Abruzzo, but I do not know the province or town and I'm not sure of the spelling of the name. They came to the usa and settled in Ontario Canada Fort Williams, it's now called Kingston Ontario. Anyone with information on the location of their town or village please let me know. My grandmothers name was Adeline and her mother's name was Angelina. Also her father's name was Christano or something like that. Brothers' names were Leonardo and Anthony. I really enjoy this site. It keeps me in touch with what is going on in Abruzzo. I have been living in the U.S. since 1966 and I still miss my beautiful Pescara. In fact, I have been coming back to the beaches in July for the last 15 years. What a site with the glacier in the Maiella mountains in the middle of the Adriatic swimming at 90 degrees. One day, when I retire, I'd like to spend the summer in Pescara close to the beach.

Love this site!! I am looking for members of my paternal and maternal families from Abruzzi. Those surnames are: DellaPietra, LaPietra, Nasuti and Sacco. My father's family is from Lanciano, Province of Chieti, though his mother originally came from Penna. My mother's family is also from Lanciano, Province of Chieti. My mother a LaPietra married my father a DellaPietra; we believe they were related about eight generations back. I am researching my grandmother's family. Her name was Elisa Valentinetti, and she was born in Ortona Al Mare on January 10, 1873. She moved to Rome and met her husband, Francesco Ciani. They both worked for the Queen of Italy, where they met. She was a seamstress; he was a guard. Later they immigrated to the USA.

This is a wonderful site; my grandmother, Emilia, was born in Carapelle Calvisio. Her parents were of the De Iulis and Pasta families. She came to the US when sent for by her brother, Rocco. Their name was (unfortunately) changed to DeJulius, so that is how they were known here. She married a man from Boiano, Carmine Campanella, who worked on the same ranch in Pocatello, Idaho, as her brother. They had 8 children, 4 of whom served in WWII, with 3 survivors.
I am proud of my heritage, and am pleased to find this website that can tell me more about it.
My father, Joseph Campanella, was the oldest son.

My husband's grandfather was born and raised in Roseto. His name was James Giuseppe. My husband and I visited Italy in 1997 and took a day trip to Roseto to visit his family. Our trip to Italy was magical and seeing the house where his grandfather was born and raised was an incredible experience. We hope to someday take our little boy, Kyle, to visit and let him experience where his family comes from. I often tell people that everyone in this world, once before they die, should go to Italy. It was truly a profound experience for us!

I fell in love with Abruzzo the day I entered
it was a Sunday afternoon and I was driving a van filled with my mother, my father, my grandfather, my step-grandmother and luggage and a guitar.
When we entered the Valley near Lago di Barrea, the view was beautiful, Nearby villages were Civitella Alfedena, that has a beautiful singer in its church Choir named Lucia Rossi. We are friends now since we met in the town where my grandfather's parents grew up, Pescasseroli.
I also enjoyed visiting Scanno, has anyone traveled here in the Abruzzo National Park? It is absolutely fantastic.

My father, Carmine, and the parents of my mother, Nellie, came from Scerni, Prov. di Chieti. I noticed quite a few names in Scerni which are in my own extended family (Fiorindo, Toscano, Monachetti, Tascione). I was born in Roccamontepiano in 1961
I went back in 1986 I loved Italy. Also my dad was born in Pretoro - he was in the military and I heard he was quite the skier and a real ladies man. He married my mom he met in roccamontpiano and he then came to Canada. To make a long story short my dad is no longer here today and when I here about Italy it brings back deep memories
