My great-grandfather emigrated to the US from the area of Guardiagrele. I don't know if he came specifically from Pretoro, but it seems there must have been some connection. My wife and I will visit there this summer for the first time. Finding web sites like this really revs up my enthusiasm. Thanks!

This website has brought me some real joy. I found a new relative (by marriage) in Australia, I found a niece of my father's that I didn't know lived there as well. And now, it looks like I'm going to visit Tocco Casauria with a cousin from Australia who I have not yet met. My heart is full.
Any relatives from Tocco Casauria please write. My grandparents were Fiore and Filomena Varrassi.

My grandfather was "Frank" Paolini. He was born in San Benedetto dei Marsi, Aquila, Abruzzi, Italy. I know he had seven brothers, Quintino, "Lenny" and "Paul" among them. He was probably born in the 1880s. He settled in Brooklyn, NY. Anyone out there with info that might relate, please contact me!

My cousins and I are doing research on our ancestry. We believe our surname was originally D'Ubaldo, and that it was changed to Dubaldi upon entry into the US or soon after. Our grandfather, Guiseppe, was born in Pescara in 1890 and our grandmother, Josephine Marino, was born in Cugnoli in 1898. We have each of their parents' names. Hopefully, we will find out much more. If you have any information on the families of D'Ubaldo, Marino, and D'Andrea - please contact me at my e-mail address. Thanks!

TO ALL named TROTTA and RICCIUTI. My parents, Luigi Victor Trotta, son of Fillipo and Giovanni Colosante TROTTA, was born in San Panfilo d'Ocre in the Province of L'Aquila. My mother, Aurora Ricciuti, daughter of Martino and Rosina Cicerone RICCIUTI, was born in Casentino, Province of L'Aquila. I have just returned, May 13, 2000, from visiting both the villages my parents came from. It was a most exciting and moving experience for me. I saw the homes they were raised in and took many pictures. If there are any of my relatives that might read this message, please contact me by email. The Province of L'Aquila is just beautiful. Mountains everywhere. I don't expect to ever return, but I have memories that will last forever. Please any Trotta's or Ricciuti's that might be out there. Contact me.

With a name like "Uram", I am obviously not Italian! But I type this e-mail from a building formerly owned by the Ateleta beneficial Association who literally built it by hand and 60 years later sold it to the Lower Bloomfield UNITY Council for transformation into a cultural-learning center with library, our neighborhood's first. The Association existed in Ateleta, Italy and was started in Pittsburgh in the early 20's. Mr. Lecce who everyone calls "Shoes" or "Andy" remembers his parents coming to the old social club to learn to write English and as the site of many community weddings where he stood at the back door to cart away paper plates of homemade cookies. By purchasing the building founded by early Italian immigrants, we've managed to preserve a bit of history and the character of our neighborhood-=-half Italian and half German, although this urban neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Bloomfield, is commonly called "Little Italy." Photos and paintings of the town of Ateleta are preserved here along with many family names. Unity Center sees this foundation as valuable and wishes to preserve it. An Italian language course is offered here, and we would like to do more regarding art, culture, public performances related to the Italian heritage. We are also collecting books written in Italian for our library. If anyone has ideas, books, or sees a possible collaboration between our group and theirs in some way, please e-mail me. Our organization is a federally recognized nonprofit and open to all members of community and every generation. Ninety-five percent of our 644 membership families are Italian and nearly all fanilies in this neighborhood trace their roots to the village of Ateleta. We publish a monthly newsletter, and it is my job to find feature stories, funding for projects and implement programs and public performances The programs however cover a wide range of subject, not limited to ethnic links. We hold a lot of Italian opera here! Ideas thoughts, etc. are very welcome. And yes, I'm going to learn Italian! People in my neighborhood speak it on every corner. I'm still learning the Web, too, a novice really. But I was glad to find this interesting web site. I would be interested personally to learn about the patron Saint of Ateleta if anyone knows.
