This site keeps getting better! According to our family tree our last name was changed from di Francesco to Lepore around the early 1800's. Does anyone have a clue why this would happen. Was there a war, earthquake or other event that could have killed the parents and the children were taken in by another family and changed the name? Keep up the great work Abruzzo2000. Ciao Ben Lepore, Jr.

I am interested in discovering more information on my relatives from Torricella Peligna.
The family names are Piccoli and Tato. Maria PICCOLI immigrated to the United States
in 1897 with her husband Nicholas TATO who changed his name to TATE in the U.S.
They were both from Torricela Peligna and I would love to find any distant relatives
and continue my family tree. They settled in Pennsylvania. Amy Lucas

My paternal ancestors are from region of Abruzzo, Province of L'Aquila, village of Ripa (Fagnano Alto).
My maternal ancestors are from the region of Abruzzo, Province of Teramo, Roseto degli Abruzzo (formerly Rosburgo), village of Montepagano. I have made great progress on both paternal and maternal genealogy; and, I am nearly done with all the essential information I want while going a little beyond the immediate ancestors. Eventually, I want to set up a website. Only recently, I received a telephone call from someone I never knew, nor met, who thought we were related. Yes we were related. One of my maternal uncles is his grandfather. He is living in Port Orford, OR where he settled after 28 years in the Air Force. He has a website: www.francona.com Anthony Domenic Crisi

The guestbook is a great idea. I've been researching my family tree for some time now and would appreciate hearing from anyone who is related to me via my father (Louis DeVincentis), who was born in Roccocaramanico and immigrated to the States when he was 11. His relatives include the surnames of Dinello (variant spelling) and Troia. The name DeVincentis has variant spellings as well, and the DeVincentis family is also in Australia. I am also looking for Bonannos from Sicily. Nan DeVincentis Hayes, Ph.D

Felicidades.

For many years, I have always wanted to visit a small city in Australia which had World War II Italian POW camps. Last year I travelled to Cowra, Australia to visit such a camp. Many Italian soldiers who fought and were taken prisoners in Tobruck and other North American Campaign's were later shipped by boat (Queen Mary), to camps in India and Australia. The camps in Australia were well kept and many fond stories of Italian POW's were told over the years. There have been books printed also.
There is a documentary currently being shot in Australia on the "Italian Farming Soldiers", as they were called because they tended to Australian farming lands due to the scarcity of humans to manage their properties. Alot of the stories in the camps made the mini series of "Hogans Heroes" look pale in comparison. There are also archived photos in a military museum of many!!! italian ex-POW's in ausrtalia. I urge anyone with information to contact me asap!!! email me or call me 705-256-8946. I'm in Canada. The local newspaper has already done two stories on my trip in 1998. The story is exciting and shows the true love of life the Italian POW's had in the camps. The documentary is currently being produced by ABC's affiliate in Australia!!!!
I hope anyone with any interest emails me or contacts me. Thanks.... Mario : Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario CanadaMario Disano
