The Last Supper, Leonardo da Vinci
Holy Thursday is the day when Lent ends and the Easter Triduum begins, to celebrate the three major events related to Easter, corresponding to Thursday (the institution of the Eucharist), Friday (the passion and death of Jesus), and Saturday (the resurrection). On Holy Thursday, the day when we remember the last supper, there are two celebrations: the Chrism Mass and the Lord's Supper. The latter, called in Latin Missa in Cena Domini, is celebrated in the late afternoon or evening and it commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus.

During the Last Supper with his disciples before his passion, Jesus gave the Apostles the so-called "Commandment of love", «Love one another as I have loved you», after washing their feet.
Another feature of Holy Thursday is at the Gloria, when the bells in all churches are rung. Then the bells are tied and will no longer be rung until the Gloria of the Easter Eve, the night of Holy Saturday.
Among the greatest paintings of all time, Leonardo da Vinci's, in the Monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan, shows exactly the reactions of all the Apostles when Jesus utters the words «One of you will betray me».
