Research Sources

Before the Unity of Italy (1861) the area was included in the Church State, and vital records were kept by parishes. During the period of French occupation (1808-1815) civil records were kept in the city of Ascoli and its frazione, Colonna and from 1816 until 1860 some isolated years were indexed also only for Ascoli: these records can be examined in the Antenati Portal as Stato civile napoleonico and Stato civile della restaurazione.

From 1861 to 1865 records for most of the Frazioni of Ascoli are online at Stato civile italiano as well as a census of the population of Ascoli from 1800 to 1880.

All other records after 1861 are at the time of writing (2021) available from the Civil Records office (Anagrafe) of the individual Comuni.
